About Me

I’m Jelmer Weening. I’m a 22 year old Music & Technology student from The Netherlands.

My passion for making music started when I was only 6 years old. The first instrument I played was a toy xylophone which had 10 keys. I enjoyed playing this instrument so much that at age 10 I got my first keyboard.

Eventually I took piano lessons at age 10. A good friend of mine took drum lessons at the same time. We met some cool people and formed a band. We called ourselves “The Hawks”.

After 4 years of having piano lessons, I quit taking lessons and focused more on school. My school provided music lessons, so luckily I could continue learning about music. At age 14 I already knew that I wanted to do something related to music when I completed my exams.

In my exam year school gave me the opportunity to make a composition. This composition would then later be played live by a brass ensemble. I’ve never done any assignment like this one before, so I was very excited that I could work together with this ensemble.

After succesfully passing my exams I have done admission to the study Music & Technology at the HKU in Utrecht. I got denied the first time, but luckily I had the opportunity to attend Music & Technology’s basic education. This education helped me learn a lot more about music. So the second year I did admission… I got accepted!

I met new friends, worked together with others on music projects, improved my production quality and I got better at making music in general.

During this time period I also developed my love for calisthenics. Eventually I want to be able to combine music and calisthenics and turn it into a business. I love to make YouTube videos and entertain people, so perhaps a YouTube carreer isn’t that far-fetched. But since I do have a stutter it gets quite challenging sometimes.

That doesn’t stop me from following my dreams however!
